Here is a photo of Joshua's birthday party. I told him he could have it after Christmas because his birthday falls during such a busy month. OK, to those of you who are only being updated on our lives via this blog, this may seem very weird and wishy-washy of us, however, we have decided to homeschool once again effective immediately. Let me explain . . .
Joshua had a great time in school. He was back in the swing of things. He had a hard time getting up when it was dark and dressing and eating and rushing out the door. However, his schoolwork thrived! He was able to focus and got his work done without skipping a beat. His teachers loved having him.
Hanna, however, was a different story. She made friends easy enough, but her selective mutism made it hard for her to really develop the friendships. She didn't use the restrooms, and she had a tummy ache every morning, and by the end, the tummy aches lasted all day long. We discovered that lunch, phy ed and recess were an incredible source of anxiety. Her teachers made a lot of concessions for her to be able to cope, but it wasn't enough.
She had a few really bad days. One of them was towards the end of the 2 months. She went to school with a tummy ache, like usual, but she was crying. I didn't know what to do, but I told her to tell her teacher if it gets worse. About an hour before school was done, the teacher called and said Hanna hadn't eaten lunch and was holding her mouth like she was going to throw up. I took her to the doctor and it was a urinary tract infection in her kidneys. I'm sure it was because she doesn't use the restrooms there, but instead holds it until we get home.
She asked me during this time if I would homeschool her again. She had tried her best, but it was too much for her right now. Last week was her last week. Joshua didn't think it was fair that Hanna got to stay home and he didn't, so we're homeschooling both of them.
During their 2 months at school, I was able to begin my workout routine again, and I am feeling much better and more like myself again. I am going to keep working out so I don't burnout again.
Last Saturday, February 28, Asher turned 1 year old. We celebrated with Gramma Carol, Great Gramma Joan and our family at Applebees. He got cars and a ball and a couple books. In the photo, he's eating his birthday cupcake.
I might decide to post a video of Hanna's songfest during her last week at school. There were a couple of short and cute songs. Asher's trying to help me type, so I have to end this.

That sounds like a lot of turmoil! Hang in there.
