A Story About a Boy . . .

Yesterday, Joshua spent a gift card at WalMart. He decided to get some shoes with wheels in the soles, an inexpensive (cheap) version of the very popular "Heelys". We got them home, and he was very disappointed when he tried them out. They were hard to walk in and not that easy to skate in. He decided to return them and save up for the real Heelys which can be up to $80.00, depending on the style. He was in it for the long haul, I guess.

New story (not unrelated): Joshua wants to grow out his hair. Marc has had a hard time with that. Last night (and just about once every week), Marc said, "Joshua, tomorrow we're gonna get a haircut." Joshua said (the same thing he always says), "No we're not." Marc says, "OK, Joshua, I'll make you a deal. I'll give you 10 bucks if you get your haircut." Joshua, without skipping a beat, says, "More." Marc's eyes kinda lit up, thinking he may have a shot this time. He says, "Twenty bucks." Joshua says, "Deal!" I'm witnessing my son metamorphosing (sp?) into his father. Joshua turns to me and says, "Now I've got more money to get my Heelys." I have to admit, both shame and pride came over me.

Highlight of the story: Today, we checked online, and Heelys were on sale for $35 at a store in town. I was getting my haircut today. As luck would have it, I was her last client, and she had 20 minutes before she had to leave, so she cut Joshua's hair really quickly. After that, we dropped in on Marc at work, and he just HAPPENED to have exactly $20 in his pocket. We returned his WalMart shoes, went to the other store and they had ONE PAIR LEFT in his size! They were actually $65 retail. The sales clerk said that they were flying off the shelf this week. The sale goes till Thursday.

I was amazed at the blessing that Joshua got today. He doesn't even realize what a great blessing it was. He would realize it if he had to save $80 and THEN got it for over half off. Here are some before and after photos of Joshua and of his new shoes.
